If you’re like me, you’re a bear and hibernation is… no, wait, that’s not right. Let me try again: If you’re like me, you love bread and you’d love for your home to be filled with the scent of freshly baked something-or-other. I don’t have a bread machine, myself, so I’ve looked around the internet to try and find some tasty sounding recipes that will be easy for anyone to throw together! Warning: some of these require a little extra elbow grease.
Turtle Bread
This is the most straight forward bread recipe on my list, hailing from Betty Crocker. It’s just regular bread with a couple of raisins, cut to look adorable and irresistible to children (and me, and maybe you). The total amount of time spent before you can devour this turtle clocks in at just over an hour, with only 20 minutes of prep time.
Banana Bread
We both knew that this list simply wouldn’t be complete without a banana bread recipe, right? Heather Larson submitted this recipe over at 8 Weeks To A Better You Recipes, and it calls for the use of both honey and applesauce, so you know it’s going to be delicious. Also, it puts you one step closer to ‘healthy’ with the use of whole wheat flour, instead of the standard white flour. Although I’m fairly certain I’d eat banana bread even if it was just made out of butter, as long as it tasted like bananas.
Blueberry Zucchini Bread
I wasn’t overly fond of zucchini when I was little, but I sure did love blueberries. This recipe from Greens and Chocolate is a sneaky and delicious way to get kids to eat to eat a vegetable bread (if they don’t already like zucchini bread).
Brazilian Cheese Bread
The proper name for this bread is pão de queijo, and this recipe comes from TheKitchn. I was fortunate enough to stumble upon these at a Brazilian grill not too long ago, and I’ve been craving them ever since. The outside is crisp, and the inside is… heaven. Magic. There is no word too strong for the delightfully fluffy and moist insides of these rolls. Do yourself a favor: make 100 of these and eat them all before anyone else gets a chance to take them away from you.
Jalapeno Cornbread
So here you were, hoping I’d bring out something a little spicier. And then BLAM, I dropped this jalapeno cornbread recipe from Live To Eat on you. I love cornbread, and I’m fairly certain that cornbread with jalapenos in it can only taste better that the regular sort. Great for those nights when you couple the bread with chili to burn that cold out!
Panda Bread
You might have seen this recipe floating around the internet. I found it over at Taste For Adventure, and it will be the most time consuming recipe on this list. But look at those little ears! This bread would be perfect for a themed party, or just as a way to challenge your food art skills. This will take you somewhere around 3 hours to prepare, most likely, so be prepared for a morning or afternoon to disappear when you make it.
There are so many breads I missed. I know, I’m disappointed too. Maybe I’ll do a follow up later. Hopefully this is enough to satisfy your bread cravings for the time being!
