Valentine’s Day Treats

Valentine’s Day tends to be filled with hallmark cards, generic stuffed animals, and boxes of heart shaped chocolates.  If you’re into celebrating this holiday, why not add a homemade touch to it? For your loved one, for your family, or a party for friends; I’ve gathered up a few recipes that may breathe some life into the day of love.  And any other day you’d like to make them, too.  I’m sure no one will mind.  :)

Fudge Bites

Courtesy of Muriel Miller

Muriel Miller, over at Cook, Bake, and Decorate, has kindly shared a recipe for these delicious and unique Valentine’s Day edibles. I love the idea of using peanut butter fudge for these, as I tend to prefer that over chocolate fudge.  For how delicious any kind of fudge tastes, I was surprised to discover it’s not terribly difficult to make.

Strawberry Bouquet

Courtesy of Madison Butler

If you think roses are ridiculously expensive, and not all that tasty to eat, then you and I are in the same boat.  So here’s a more delicious idea for a bouquet!  It’s pretty straight forward; just poke some strawberries, dip them in chocolate, and voila.  Madison Butler at Veggieful has them wrapped up in simple paper and tied up with twine, but feel free to fancy it up a little with colored paper, or drizzle colored frosting onto the ‘roses’.

Guava Cake

Courtesy of Ruth

This cake from What’s Cooking With Ruthie takes a little bit of preparation, but good golly, does it sound delicious.  You substitute the water in the cake mix with guava juice, so I imagine this cake will be pretty moist and overflowing with flavor. This treat is definitely not for the faint of heart (or stomach).

Ladybug Mints

Courtesy of Laura

SO CUTE. Laura at House of Joyful Noise shares this adorable ladybug mint cookie recipe, and although it takes a decent amount of prep; your guests, or your children’s friends, definitely won’t be disappointed.  I also have a soft spot for those grasshopper mint cookies, so these have a safe place at the top of my ‘to make’ list for Valentine’s Day.

Mini Red Velvet Cheesecakes

Courtesy of Louise

Okay, I lied.  These red velvet cheesecakes from Lick The Spoon would actually be at the top of my list.  There’s nothing quite like the first smooth and creamy bite of cheesecake, for me. The recipe will produce roughly 12 of these, which is probably for the best; eating any more than that in one sitting is probably guaranteed to give you a little bit of a stomach ache.

Fortune Cookies

Courtesy of Sugar for the Brain

I have a sneaking suspicion that my fortune cookies wouldn’t look nearly this good if I attempted to make them.  Thankfully, the author at Sugar For The Brain has provided us not only with a great step-by-step explanation, but also a youtube video! I really love the idea of making these, and filling them with goofy fortunes of love instead of more traditional fortunes. These will take a little bit of work, but also could be the most unique treats the recipient will receive during Valentine’s Day.
